About this program
This course provides advanced training in renewable and sustainable energy systems, sustainable energy policy and development, energy efficiency, and carbon management, developed with input from industry consultants in the energy and carbon sector and updated over time in response to industry developments. Students learn interdisciplinary skills for designing, optimising, and evaluating the technical, social, and economic viability of renewable energy schemes, gaining practical experience through the Murdoch University Energy Research and Innovation Group (MUERI), with the option to complete a dissertation in an area of interest. Murdoch describes it as a globally recognised, multi-disciplinary degree. Renewable energy careers can overlap with engineering and environmental-science occupations that appear on Australia's skilled occupation lists, but this degree itself is not an engineering qualification for the purposes of an Engineers Australia skills assessment, so graduates should check specific occupation requirements before treating it as a direct migration pathway.

Admissions
Recognised Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) or higher, or equivalent training, or professional experience in a related area. Students may be eligible for advanced standing in the Masters if they have achieved AQF Level 8 in a recognised, cognate discipline. Some of the units taken assume some prior knowledge, details of which are given in the description of each unit in the Handbook. The most common of these is the high school Physics prerequisite for units such as Energy in Society, Energy Management and Energy System Some students may therefore need to complete additional prerequisite units.
