Undergraduate
Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science
University of Canberra, Canberra, ACT, Australia
About this program
Canberra is the base of the Australian Institute of Sport, and UC's Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science leans on that geography directly: students complete 250 hours of Work Integrated Learning, with internship placements available through partners including the AIS itself, NRL and Super Rugby clubs, WNBL and W-League programs, and the ACT's community sport network via UC's on-campus Sporting Commons facility.
The course is accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia, so graduates can seek accreditation as an exercise scientist immediately on completion, rather than needing a further conversion year. Coursework covers biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control and nutrition, building toward a research project students choose within their own area of interest in sport or exercise science.
UC reports that placement-to-employment conversion is unusually strong for this course, with some students securing ongoing roles with their placement organisation before they've even graduated, a reflection of how tightly the internship network is woven into the ACT's sporting institutions.
