Master of Commerce

University of Melbourne, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

The University of Melbourne's Master of Commerce is not a general coursework master's degree. It is a two-year research-training program that forms years one and two of the University's five-year doctoral programs, offered as Master of Commerce in Management, Economics, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, or Decision, Risk and Financial Sciences. Students take advanced disciplinary and research-methods subjects and a research report, and progress into the PhD only if they meet high grade thresholds, generally a 75 to 80 per cent average. Entry is highly competitive and aimed at students planning an academic or research career, with scholarships including fee waivers and a stipend for strong applicants. Graduates who want a professional coursework qualification should instead look at Melbourne's Master of Management, Master of Finance, or the Master of Commerce specialisation coursework alternatives.
