About this program
The Master of Journalism at the University of Melbourne, designed by leading academics and news media practitioners, builds the skills to gather, analyse and present news across traditional and emerging media. Students choose a 200-point, two-year coursework or thesis program, or a 150-point, 1.5-year program for graduates of a relevant undergraduate degree, with no prior journalism experience required.
Graduates advance careers across journalism, communications, public relations and the media, equipped with a deep understanding of best practice in a changing media landscape.

Admissions
The Master of Journalism is a 200 point (2 years full-time) program, however if you have completed previous study or relevant work experience in this discipline, you may be eligible for entry to the 100 point program (1 year full-time). Please note that part-time study is not available for international students. To be considered for entry into the 150 point program, you must: Have completed a bachelor honours degree (AQF8) in a cognate (relevant) discipline, with a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent. Or Have completed a bachelor degree (AQF7) in a cognate (relevant) discipline, with a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent, and at least two years of documented, relevant work experience.
