About this program

UQ's Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) trains students for Australia's growing life sciences sector, spanning biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food, medical technology and agricultural technology. Students choose an independent research project in one of five fields, agricultural, chemical and nano medical, molecular and microbial, or synthetic biology and industrial, supervised by scientists who have commercialised their own research discoveries. Core courses include the biotechnology honours seminar, research methods, and the honours research project itself, taught with access to UQ's laboratory, research and computing facilities. Strong links to industry, government and the research community support internships and networking throughout the degree, and it also serves as a pathway into a PhD or other higher research degree. Typical graduate roles include research officer, bioprocess scientist, quality control manager and biochemist.
