Undergraduate
Bachelor of Social Science
University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
The Bachelor of Social Science at the University of Queensland examines social systems, inequality and human behaviour through disciplines including sociology, policy and community development, with strong links kept between theory and real-world practice throughout. Early courses cover social structures and policy before students specialise in one of three majors aligned with their career interests, and a supervised, year-long research project gives students hands-on experience conducting original social research. Core courses include introduction to the social sciences, political problems and public policy, and introduction to social research, and the degree can be combined with a Bachelor of Arts as a dual program. Teaching builds skills in policymaking, advocacy, public communication and project management that employers in the social and government sectors actively look for. Typical graduate roles include community development officer, social and government researcher, and community planning and policy adviser.
