About this program
UQ's Master of Cyber Security is designed for students who want to lead cyber security strategy at a technological, organisational or policy level, not only work as a technical specialist. The program covers cryptography, cyber criminology, cyber defence and leadership, developed in partnership with industry and government experts in response to Australia's projected shortfall of roughly 18,000 cyber security professionals by 2026. Students study alongside a cohort from diverse backgrounds spanning technology, business, mathematics, social science and law, then complete an industry or research-based project to build workforce-ready experience. It is one of the first Australian programs built around this deliberately interdisciplinary approach to cyber security rather than a purely technical curriculum. Typical graduate roles include cyber security analyst, security consultant, chief information security officer pathway roles and cyber policy adviser.
