About this program
The Master of Information Technology is UWA's conversion-friendly postgraduate IT degree, designed for graduates moving into computing from an unrelated undergraduate discipline as much as for computer science graduates deepening their qualification, covering programming fundamentals, systems analysis, databases and networking before moving into specialisation options that typically include areas like cybersecurity, data science or software engineering.
Perth's tech sector is smaller than Sydney or Melbourne's but has real specific strength tied to the resources sector: mining technology, automation and remote operations software, since WA's major mining companies run some of the most automated mine sites in the world and need software and IT talent to support that, giving the degree a regional industry angle that a generic east-coast IT master's doesn't share.
Graduates move into software development, systems analysis, IT project management and, for a meaningful share of WA-based graduates, mining technology and automation roles specific to the state's resources sector.

Admissions
A bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification (as recognised by UWA), with the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65%, plus completion of Mathematics Methods ATAR (or equivalent) as a prerequisite.
