About this program
The Master of Studies at the University of Western Australia lets students create their own course, selecting a unique combination of postgraduate units from different schools and faculties across the University to achieve their academic, professional or personal goals. Many of the world's major problems and areas of current research are multidisciplinary, and this course enables students to draw on a broad range of postgraduate units, subject to their previous study. Graduates gain a flexible, tailored qualification aligned to their career direction.

Course structure
1 term of coursework
- This is a coursework masters of up to 96 points
- with a standard full time duration of 1.5 years extending to a 2 year maximum. Students first complete 24 points (4 units) of interdisciplinary breadth chosen with a course adviser across all faculties
- then nominate an area of disciplinary or cross disciplinary depth and complete a minimum of 24 points (4 units) in that area
- including a substantial research based project
- capstone experience or piece of scholarship. Remaining units are selected as electives to support the depth area
- with at least half of all units at Level 4 or 5. Students who have completed a relevant bachelor's degree major are granted credit for conversion units of up to 24 points
Admissions
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification recognised by UWA. The Graduate Certificate in Studies (24 points) and Master of Studies (96 points) form an articulated sequence, so a student who withdraws from the Master of Studies after completing the Graduate Certificate requirements may apply for that lesser award instead.
