About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) is a one-year advanced degree for high-achieving students who've completed an undergraduate pass degree in Arts, Social Sciences, Politics Philosophy and Economics, International Studies, or Social Research and Policy, deepening research and analytical skills within their existing major specialisation. The honours year develops higher-order critical thinking, reflection and analysis specific to the student's chosen discipline, understanding of relevant disciplinary methods and their assumptions, and an appreciation for ethics within both private and public life. Available full-time or part-time, the program builds genuine research capability that applies interdisciplinary perspectives and historical or comparative frameworks where relevant to the student's field. It suits arts and social science graduates who performed strongly in their pass degree and want deeper research training before entering the workforce or continuing into further postgraduate research study.

Admissions
Students must have completed the UNSW Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Sciences, Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Bachelor of International Studies or Bachelor of Social Research and Policy or other recognised Level 7 qualification with a major in a specialisation offered in the program. Students in a double degree must have completed 144 UOC including all requirements for the Arts, International Studies or Social Research and Policy component. Entry to Honours requires a WAM of 70 or higher (or equivalent) in the specialisation(s) seeking to be further studied. It is subject to resources and the approval of the Head of School in which the specialisation(s) is/are based.
