Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice

UNSW's Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice offers a critical, interdisciplinary exploration of crime, justice and social change, drawing on criminology, sociology, law, public health, youth work and policy studies rather than treating criminology as a narrow standalone discipline. Students engage with diverse perspectives, including from people with lived experience of the criminal justice system, examining criminalisation, policing, incarceration, alternative justice systems, and the impacts of colonisation and systemic inequality on justice outcomes. Two integrated core curricula, the Criminology and Criminal Justice Core and the Social Science Core, build both deep criminological theory and practical social research and policy analysis skills, supplemented by work-integrated learning, internships or one of four available double degree options. It suits students who want a genuinely critical, research-grounded approach to criminology rather than a purely descriptive study of crime, positioning graduates for careers across justice, policy, advocacy and community sectors.
