About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Data Science and Decisions trains students to meet strong current and future demand for data scientists and analysts, building coherent knowledge across mathematics and statistics, computer science, and economics before students pursue deeper knowledge in one of three specialisation streams. Beyond technical data skills, the program deliberately builds critical reading, logical thinking, clear communication and teamwork, alongside genuine ethical grounding for working with data and its real-world consequences. Students learn to apply mathematical and computational techniques alongside genuine business sensibility to real-world problems involving complex data sets, rather than treating data science as a purely technical exercise divorced from its business or social context. It suits students who want a genuinely interdisciplinary data science degree spanning mathematics, computing and economics, rather than a narrower computer-science-only or statistics-only data program.

Course structure
- Students must complete 144 UOC when taken as a standalone program. Students in the Data Science and Decisions program are expected to complete the following requirements: 120 UOC Data Science and Decisions courses - 72 UOC of core courses across Stages 1
- 2 and 3 - One major. An approved major is 66-72 UoC. 18-24 UoC of program core courses are double-counted towards your major and the remaining 48 UoC are specific to your major. 12 UOC Free Electives . These courses can be taken from any Faculty of the University at any stage of your program. 12 UOC General Education courses . These courses cannot be Science
