About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Media in Communication and Journalism is one of five specialisations within the broader three-year Bachelor of Media degree, building creative, critical and practical media skills specific to communication and journalism practice within UNSW's wider media program. Students get real-world experience working on genuine projects with real outcomes, immersing themselves in professional media cultures and emerging practices rather than studying journalism purely in the abstract. Because the degree sits within the broader Bachelor of Media structure, students can take electives across the other four specialisations, Cinema Studies, Media Studies, Public Relations and Advertising, and Screen Production, or complete a Media Minor in a second specialisation for added flexibility. It suits students who've decided communication and journalism is their career direction but want the option to broaden into adjacent media disciplines through electives, rather than a narrowly focused journalism-only degree.

Admissions
ATAR 83 or equivalent (2026 lowest selection rank for the Bachelor of Media, program 3341). Communication & Journalism is one of five specialisation streams available within the single Bachelor of Media degree (alongside Cinema Studies, Media Studies, Public Relations & Advertising and Screen Production); entry is via the common Bachelor of Media ATAR/selection rank, with the specialisation chosen once enrolled, not a separately UAC-coded degree.
