About this program
UNSW's Diploma in Science is a 12-month pathway into the Bachelor of Science, letting students choose between a Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences stream or a Biological and Medical Sciences stream, each satisfying first-year requirements for relevant majors once completed. Courses are equivalent in content and outcomes to first-year UNSW science courses but delivered at a slower pace with more face-to-face contact hours, easing the transition into university-level lectures, laboratories and problem-solving workshops. After successfully completing a stream of eight courses, students receive advanced standing credit and progress directly into second year of the Bachelor of Science in their chosen area. It suits students who want a UNSW science degree but need a supported, slower-paced entry point before committing to full first-year science coursework, whether due to academic score, English proficiency or an educational gap.

- Students must complete 48 UOC when taken as a standalone program. Compulsory General Education Core Courses (6 UOC) Core Component Additional Courses (not available for Life Sciences pathway)
Admissions
For admission to the Diploma, an applicant is usually expected to have completed Secondary School or the equivalent, such as University Foundation Studies, prior to commencement of their studies.
