About this program
UNSW's Diploma of Science and Technology is an exit-only qualification, meaning it's awarded to students leaving an undergraduate science or technology program partway through rather than something students can apply for directly, requiring faculty consent for transfer into the program. It equips students with broad disciplinary and general professional knowledge and skills applicable to work or further study, functioning as a formal recognition of partial completion rather than a standalone qualification students pursue from the outset. Graduates who later wish to recommence full undergraduate studies must reapply to the university rather than automatically continuing. Course structure
- Students must complete 48 UOC Disciplinary Component (30 UOC) Free Electives (18 UOC) Via a combination of: Core and/or Prescribed, Recommended, Faculty Electives within an eligible Program
- or Core and/or Electives from a major within an eligible major
- or Combination of Core and/or Prescribed, Recommended, Faculty Electives within an eligible Program and major within that Program Note: An eligible Program or major is a Program or major with Science, Engineering, Medicine and Health (applicable programs only) as Owning Faculty
Admissions
The Diploma in Science and Technology is not a direct-entry program; there is no UAC or first-preference application pathway. It is awarded only to students already enrolled in an eligible UNSW Science, Engineering or Medicine and Health undergraduate program who exit that program partway through with faculty consent, using core, prescribed or elective courses already completed within their original program or major. Students who later wish to resume full undergraduate study must reapply to the university rather than automatically continuing.
