About this program
The PhD in Bioinformatics at UNSW Sydney trains researchers to organise, visualise, analyse and interpret large-scale biological data. Advances in high-throughput molecular technologies, data storage and algorithms have transformed research practice in the life sciences, and bioinformatics has become a central enabling discipline for managing and analysing this data and generating new knowledge. Candidates are based in the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences and are trained by experienced bioinformaticians across different areas of life sciences, with exposure to current technologies. The program involves a minimum of three years of full-time study, with supervised research leading to a thesis that normally does not exceed 100,000 words, submitted within four years of full-time study. It is based at the UNSW Kensington campus in Sydney.
