Doctor of Public Management (Professional Doctorate)

UNSW Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia

About this program

The Doctor of Public Management at UNSW Sydney is a professional doctorate that combines a doctoral thesis with disciplinary and methodological coursework. The research addresses a real-world, work-based problem, with the aim of making a novel contribution to practice. The degree consists of one-third coursework, equivalent to one year full time, and two-thirds research, equivalent to two years full time, over a minimum of three years full-time equivalent. Coursework, undertaken through the School of Business at UNSW Canberra, must be completed before the research begins, and the program can be studied part time or full time. Public management looks beyond policy creation to how ideas can be delivered effectively and efficiently. The program suits people in, or seeking, senior positions delivering public services, as well as scholars developing research competence in the field.
