About this program
UNSW's Graduate Diploma of Mining Engineering gives professionals already working in the mining sector, or those transitioning into it, foundational knowledge and practical skills across mine design, process optimisation, safety and environmental management. Most courses run in modular, intensive block format, either face-to-face or online, specifically suited to mining company employees who need to balance study with ongoing work commitments, though international students on a student visa can only complete up to a third online. The 48-credit-point program develops both technical and managerial understanding of the mining industry alongside critical research skills that prepare students for leadership roles, functioning as a comprehensive overview for professionals who want to specialise in mining engineering without committing to a full Master of Mining Engineering, while still leaving that progression path open if they later decide to continue.

Admissions
Recognised prior learning (RPL) will be considered for a maximum of 24 UOC towards the Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering upon application to the Program Authority and according to the UNSW RPL Procedure. Evidence will be required for equivalent learning including duration of a course provided by a recognised institution, and course content and assessment. All courses completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Mining Engineering at UNSW will be recognised for the purpose of advanced standing for the Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering. Entry to the UNSW Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering requires one of the following: successful completion of the UNSW Graduate Certificate in Mining Engineering with 65 WAM, or a Bachelor degree in a related cognate discipline such as (Chemical, Electrical, Environmental, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Petroleum) or physical Science...
