About this program
UNSW's Master of International Relations builds a strong theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary world politics, introducing the major theoretical traditions used to explain state behaviour and international actors before applying them to real issues like the conduct of war, the pursuit of international security, global economics and environment, international law and diplomacy, and human rights. Students examine current concerns including regional conflicts, great power rivalry, economic uncertainty, environmental threats, humanitarian crises and terrorism, extending existing knowledge with advanced research and analytical thinking skills. It suits graduates and professionals aiming for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, government foreign policy roles, think tanks or international NGOs, as well as those who want deeper theoretical grounding in world politics to complement an existing career touching international affairs.
