About this program
UNSW's Master of Interpreting is endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters, preparing students for NAATI certification exams including Certified Provisional Interpreter and Certified Interpreter, with additional coursework enabling specialist certification as Certified Specialist Interpreter in health or legal contexts, or Certified Conference Interpreter. The program covers legal, medical, business, community and conference interpreting specialisations, taught by leading researchers and practitioners and complemented by real professional practice experience. Beyond interpreting-specific skills, students build oral comprehension, public speaking, discourse analysis and project management capabilities relevant across professional interpreting settings. Language combinations, offered subject to demand, span Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and Turkish, with fully online study available only to domestic students not on an international student visa.

Admissions
A bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) with a credit average (equivalent to a UNSW WAM of 65) and an advanced level of bilingual proficiency. You will be considered to have an advanced level of bilingual proficiency if you have: Completed 3-year+ qualification equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree which was undertaken in the nominated language, completed within the 10 years prior to commencement of the program applied for OR Provided evidence of a NAATI certification/accreditation for interpreting or translation for the nominated language offered in this program OR Successfully completed TAFE Diploma or TAFE Advanced Diploma of Interpreting OR Successfully completed at least one of UNSW's I&T courses (MODL5100, MODL5101, MODL5102, MODL5103, MODL5104, MODL5107, MODL5108, MODL5112) OR Provided evidence of being a native speaker of the language and completed high school ...
