About this program
UNSW's Master of Journalism and Communication builds a professionally relevant and academically rigorous portfolio of media practice skills spanning print, radio, television, online media, media relations and corporate communication, grounded in interdisciplinary understanding of the social, economic and political role of media locally and internationally. Students develop critical thinking and research skills for ethical, reflective media practice, drawing on international journalism and communication scholarship, and can choose either research or practice pathways at the advanced disciplinary level depending on career direction. Community engagement is built into both coursework and assessment, with some tasks involving genuine cooperative partnerships with NGOs and industry organisations. It suits graduates and working professionals who want comprehensive journalism and communication training with real emphasis on the research-practice connection, positioning them for careers across journalism, corporate communication and media production.

Admissions
The maximum credit transfer for a Masters is 50% of the specialisation, that is, up to 24 UOC credit transfer for the 1 year specialisation and 36 UOC credit transfer for the 1.7 year specialisation.
