About this program

The Master of Philosophy (Science) at UNSW Sydney is designed to give students the opportunity to develop research competence within a limited timeframe, over 1.5 years full time or three years part time. The program comprises 72 units of credit made up of an examinable coursework component of 18 to 24 units of credit, normally three or four courses drawn from the relevant coursework masters offering and approved by the head of school, plus a research thesis. It is offered in disciplinary streams including chemistry, geography, mathematics, oceanography, physics and statistics. Students may be able to convert from the MPhil to a PhD subject to satisfactory progress, confirmation of candidature and completion of the coursework component. The program is delivered through UNSW Canberra.
