About this program
UNSW's Master of Translation is endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters, preparing students for the Certified Translator certification exam and, with additional coursework, the specialist Certified Advanced Translator exam. Offered in a 48-credit-point, one-year plan or a 72-credit-point, 1.7-year plan depending on prior qualifications, the program covers translation specialisations spanning multimedia, business, legal, medical, scientific, technical, subtitling and captioning, translation technology and community translation. Real professional practice experience complements academic content, taught by leading translation and linguistics researchers and practitioners. Language combinations, offered subject to demand, span Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and Turkish, with fully online study available only to domestic students not on an international student visa.

Admissions
If you are seeking credit transfer, you must submit documentary evidence of courses completed at the time of initial enrolment. UNSW Arts, Design and Architecture will then determine the number of units of credit to be granted. Credit transfer will not be granted for courses completed more than ten years previously. The maximum credit transfer for a Masters is 50% of the specialisation, that is, up to 24 UOC for the 1 year specialisation and 36 UOC for the 1.7 year specialisation. 1 year (48 UOC) program (Specialisation A) A bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) in any field with a credit average (equivalent to a UNSW WAM of 65) and an advanced level of bilingual proficiency*, plus one year relevant professional experience as a professional translator.
