Master of Applied Information Technology
Victoria University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
VU built this course for people who already have a degree in something else and want to pivot into IT without starting from zero. It runs on the university's block model, which means you study one unit at a time over four weeks rather than juggling four subjects across a semester, a format VU has been refining since 2018 after seeing first-year fail rates drop by roughly 40% under it, and the same intensive structure now applies right through postgraduate coursework.
The course covers programming, database design, systems analysis and network fundamentals before moving into electives in areas like cybersecurity or data analytics, aimed at getting career-changers to a point where they can sit entry-level developer or analyst interviews. Because it's pitched at non-IT graduates, the first few units spend more time than a typical postgrad program would on foundational coding literacy before the pace picks up.
Classes run out of VU's Footscray Park and City campuses, both a short train ride from Melbourne's CBD tech employers, and the course carries professional-year options that matter to international graduates chasing post-study work rights.
