About this program
SIS50421 Diploma of Outdoor Leadership is a vocational (VET) qualification delivered by Avondale (RTO 91191) that trains senior leaders to plan, lead and supervise participants in outdoor recreational activities, preparing graduates for employment in outdoor recreation, tourism and education. Most instruction takes place in the field across parts of Australia, covering activities such as bushwalking, climbing on natural surfaces, kayaking on moving water and sea kayaking. This is a physically demanding qualification, and students must be able to hike, camp and sleep outdoors, including in remote areas, and carry their own equipment.

Admissions
Applicants should have completed SIS30619 Certificate III or SIS40621/SIS40619 Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership, or be able to demonstrate significant outdoor leadership experience (for example through Pathfinders, Scouts, or prior outdoor recreation employment). All applicants must be 18 years or older, demonstrate Language, Literacy and Numeracy at Year 12 level or AQF 4 or higher, and provide supporting evidence (photo ID, school reports or prior qualifications), complete a literacy, language and numeracy assessment and skills assessment, an activity log, a medical form and an interview. Students must be able to obtain a Working with Children Check and meet the course's physical demands.
