About this program
The accelerated version of Bond's Bachelor of Health Sciences honours year, completed in two semesters on Bond's three-intake calendar rather than three. It is a research year taken after a bachelor's degree in health sciences or a related field: advanced coursework in research design and methods plus a supervised honours thesis in an area matched to a supervisor. Entry requires a strong grade average in the prior degree. The result is classified, and a good honours classification is the standard entry point to a PhD. It suits health sciences graduates who want to move quickly into research or strengthen their profile for postgraduate study or competitive health programs.

- Required HLSC41-151: Research Analysis and Communication (Intensive) (15CP) The successful conduct of research requires advanced abilities in analysis and interpretation of data
- critical thinking
- and written and oral presentation. This subject
- along with the skills developed in the subject "Research Preparation & Design"
- supports Health Sciences Honours students as they progress into their Honours program. A thorough coverage of mathematical and statistical (quantitative) procedures
- as well as qualitative approaches
- will be provided in order to support both the project design and data analysis. Parametric and non-parametric statistical methods will be examined including t-tests
- analysis of variance (ANOVA)
- correlation
- and regression. Workshops will actively develop students' skills in a variety of communication formats including the writing of discipline-specific journal articles

HLSC41-152: Research Preparation and Design (Intensive) (15CP) This subject is designed to provide the framework and skills necessary for Honours students to successfully commence a research project in the Health Sciences. Students will work closely with the Honours convenor and individual project supervisors to develop their research topic
- formulate their aims and hypotheses and consider the significance of the project. Workshops will enable students to search for and retrieve
- interpret and begin to critically evaluate the relevant literature in their field. Research ethics processes will be discussed and debated

Admissions
In evaluating an application for admission to the Honours program, the following will be considered by the Honours committee: The undergraduate record of the applicant, and the completion (or expected completion) of a relevant Bachelor's degree. The standard for admission into the Honours program is an overall GPA of 2.0 (credit) out of 4, (equivalent 5.0 out of 7). Candidates must have completed at least 60 credit points of study related to the general area of the proposed Honours research project in the last three semesters of their Bachelor's degree. Candidates must have been awarded a Bachelor's degree that is related to the proposed Honours research project within the previous three years. Completion of an Australian undergraduate degree program (or equivalent) with at least 60 credit points (or equivalent) related to the general area of the proposed Honours research project.
