About this program
Box Hill Institute's Diploma of Music Industry is a real, TEQSA accredited award (renewal date 14 December 2027) built as the formal 1 year exit point from the institute's Bachelor of Music Industry, rather than a separately marketed standalone course; Box Hill's own Bachelor of Music Industry (Major in Performance) course page states explicitly: "Diploma in Music Industry is an exit point after 1 year of full time study." There is no separate Diploma of Music Industry marketing page on boxhill.edu.au; its content is the first year of the Bachelor's structure.
The first year covers the Bachelor's common core, which looks at the music industry from multiple angles including innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, alongside foundational major study (in whichever of the degree's six pillars, business, composition, music production, performance, songwriting or audio production, a student has chosen), plus a first slice of the degree's elective pool of over sixty subjects. Students taking the Performance major spend Year 1 on foundational music theory and ear training, instrumental technique, ensemble playing skills, and a weekly "how music works" lecture series.
Students who take this exit point still have access to Box Hill's studio facilities, its licensed 200+ capacity on campus music venue, industry standard writing and production suites, and its Artist in Residence program during that first year.

Admissions
Box Hill Institute's own Bachelor of Music Industry page does not publish separate admission criteria for the 1 year Diploma exit point; entry into the Bachelor of Music Industry itself requires an Australian Year 12 or international equivalent with a pass, folio evidence of music ability (live audition, video/online audition, or DVD), a supervised musicianship test, and an interview. Box Hill Institute only accepts enrolments from international students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.
