Bachelor of Agricultural Science

Charles Sturt University, Multi-campus, regional NSW, Australia

About this program

Based at CSU's Orange campus, the Bachelor of Agricultural Science is a straight science degree rather than the business-agriculture hybrid CSU also offers. Students spend real time on the university's working farm and through the EH Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation, a partnership with the NSW Department of Primary Industries that runs actual field trials students can be involved in. That gives the course a research-adjacent feel that's harder to replicate at a metropolitan university without its own farmland.

Core science subjects (soil science, plant physiology, animal production, genetics) build toward specialisations in cropping systems, livestock production or natural resource management, and the degree is designed as a genuine pathway into agronomy, farm advisory, or postgraduate research roles rather than just farm management. Students wanting the management/business side would typically look at the Agricultural Business Management degree instead. A supervised research project or industry placement in the final year is standard.
