Master of Professional Accounting

Holmes Institute, Multi-campus (Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast), Australia

About this program

The Master of Professional Accounting at Holmes is built to satisfy the CPA Australia and CA ANZ accreditation requirements for entry into those professional bodies, which is really the whole point of the degree for most people enrolled in it: it's a conversion course for graduates whose undergraduate degree wasn't in accounting and who need the full suite of core accounting units to sit the CPA Program or CA exams. It runs over roughly two years full-time across twelve to sixteen units depending on how much credit a student's prior degree earns them.

Because it's an accreditation-driven degree, the unit list is fairly fixed by the professional bodies rather than by Holmes itself: financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, taxation law, corporate law and finance all have to appear. What Holmes adds on top is smaller class sizes and, for many students, English-language academic support built into the first trimester, which matters given a large share of the cohort has come from non-English-medium undergraduate study.
