About this program

The Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Biosciences at La Trobe University lets students turn a love of animals into a career. Students study the basics of animal science including breeding, nutrition and animal welfare, and explore global issues such as food security, epidemics and pandemics, and the environmental impacts of animal agriculture. Later years cover animal physiology, biochemistry and immunology. Each year includes practical elements such as real-life animal case studies with industry partners, plus compulsory and elective placements. With further study graduates can pursue veterinary science, or careers as conservation scientists and in animal industries.
