About this program
The course is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate health sciences degree and will facilitate articulation into the second year of an undergraduate course offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Human Sciences. You will be introduced to the fundamentals of human health and explore the social and societal factors that influence it, equipping yourself with the essential knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the health sector. As such, the Diploma has been specifically designed to develop the following four graduate capabilities: Capability 1. Scientist and Scholar: Graduates will be work-ready health scientists and research-informed scholars with the broad knowledge and skills required to address emerging and current health-related issues. Capability 2. Practitioner: Graduates will be multimodal communicators and solution-oriented practitioners able to critically analyse and communicate information concerning local and global health issues. Capability 3. Citizen: Graduates will be inclusive and culturally respectful citizens who can adapt readily to new situations and make effective decisions under pressure. Capability 4. Professional: Graduates will be ethical and reflective professionals committed to lifelong learning who can work collaboratively and autonomously to achieve common goals. This is a Macquarie University (Sydney) course.

Admissions
Year 12 (or equivalent) qualification with a minimum Selection Rank of 60 or HSC (or interstate) board exam with minimum average mark* of 60. International students must be at least 17 years of age at the time of commencement and have a qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12 with an ATAR of 60. *Other factors including ATAR and other attempted studies are taken into consideration with the average mark. Achieving the average mark does not guarantee an offer. Only relevant State Board approved academic subjects are included when reviewing your average. For instance, in the New South Wales HSC, only results from Board Developed courses are considered. In addition to the criteria listed above, admission to the Diploma of Health Sciences articulating into the following Bachelor degree requires evidence of a higher standard of English language proficiency equivalent to the level required for direct entry into the specified Bachelor degree: Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science
