About this program
Monash's Bachelor of Computer Science builds a strong theoretical foundation in computation and its connection to mathematics before students choose a specialisation in algorithms and software studies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or data science and AI, letting the degree flex toward quite different computing careers depending on the path chosen. Coursework teaches students to think like a computer scientist about processes and their descriptions, building the algorithm design and data structure skills needed to write efficient software that solves genuine real-world problems rather than only toy programming exercises. A significant final project in the student's chosen specialisation caps off the degree, and eligible students can apply for an industry-based learning placement to apply their skills in a real professional organisation before graduating. It suits students who want serious computing depth with the flexibility to specialise in whichever area of computer science interests them most, from AI and machine learning to cybersecurity and network systems.

- This course comprises 144 points
- 42 pointsof which 96 points must be from computer science study and 48 points are used to provide additional depth or breadth through elective study. The course develops through theme studies in: Part A. Foundation studies
- 6 pointsPart B. Professional practice studies
- 36 pointsPart C. Specialist studies
- 12 pointsPart D. Applied studies
- and Part E. Free elective studies (48 points). Elective units may be at any level

- no more than ten units (60 points) can be credited to the computer science course at level 1 and a minimum of 36 points must be completed in computer science at level 3. Note: Students at the Malaysia campus are required to have completed an industry placement in order to graduate.
