About this program
Monash's Master of Accounting is built for people who already have some grounding in the discipline, whether that's an accounting-major bachelor's degree or professional experience, and want to move into specialist practice. Depending on your prior study you enter at one of two levels, completing either 48 or 72 credit points across strategic management accounting, forensic accounting and fraud examination, financial reporting, and integrated business systems, then choosing electives that can be shaped around data analytics, sustainability reporting, governance and risk, or valuation. A research pathway is available by invitation to strong students, replacing some coursework with a supervised research project for those considering further postgraduate study. The course is recognised by Australia's major professional accounting bodies, so completing it alongside the right prerequisite units keeps you on track for CA ANZ, CPA Australia or CIMA membership. Course structure
1 term of coursework
- The course comprises of 72 credit points, structured in two parts: Part A. Core studies and Part B. Elective studies (Coursework pathway), or Part A. Core research studies and Part B. Research project (Research pathway). You must complete either the Coursework pathway or the Research pathway. The Research pathway in the Master of Accounting is available by application only. The Course Director will invite you (via email) to apply for the Research pathway prior to November each year. To be eligible to apply, you must have completed the following four units with an overall Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 70, and no mark below 60 in any of these units: ACF5100, ACF5120, ACF5150, and ACF5330.
