About this program
Monash's Master of Banking and Finance is built for career-changers as much as finance graduates, since it assumes limited prior knowledge of the sector and works through the fundamentals of banking, financial markets and institutional structures before moving into more applied territory. Depending on your existing qualifications you enter at one of two credit-point levels, spending either two years or eighteen months full-time working through units on financial institutions, corporate finance, risk and investment before choosing a smaller set of electives to shape your specialisation. The course is aimed squarely at people who want a practical route into banking and finance careers rather than a research-oriented finance degree, so assessment leans toward applied problem-solving and case analysis over theory. It suits graduates from non-finance backgrounds who've decided the finance sector is where they want to build a career, as well as people already working in banking who need a formal qualification to support career progression into more technical or analytical roles.
