About this program
Organisations across many industry sectors need information technology professionals who can establish, maintain, and develop information systems, or address network performance and security concerns. The Doctor of Information Technology is an intensive three-year professional degree combining master's-level units, research, and a research dissertation. The first two semesters consist of coursework covering approaches to information technology and current topics of concern in the industry. The remaining four semesters are devoted to research, culminating in a dissertation intended to make a significant contribution to professional practice in information technology. ICT occupations such as systems analyst, software engineer, and ICT security specialist are assessed by the Australian Computer Society and generally require the degree plus one to two years of relevant work experience or a Professional Year in IT, with the 485 graduate visa commonly used to build that experience. The course is delivered by Murdoch University in Western Australia.

Admissions
To be eligible for admission as a candidate for a Doctor of Information Technology, an applicant must have: *a Bachelor Degree with at least a 2A Honours normally in the same discipline (AQF level 8); or *a Masters Degree normally in the same discipline (AQF level 9) and satisfy the Dean of Graduate Studies with evidence of substantive and significant scholarly or professional attainments; or *a Bachelor Degree normally in the same discipline (AQF level 7) and satisfy the Dean with evidence of substantive and significant scholarly or professional attainments including satisfactory research preparation equivalent of AQF level 8 or 9.
