About this program
Design thinking combines critical thinking and creativity to reframe problems and generate ideas for improving services and solving complex business problems, an approach used by corporations and government agencies for product innovation and service redesign. The course covers human-centred design methods, including user research, empathy mapping, and customer insight, applied to prototyping solutions across a range of production and service contexts, and includes a real-world client project. It is designed to build or update skills for professionals and graduates in business, community development, engineering, graphic design, health services, information technology, marketing, strategic communications, and sustainable development. Completing the course allows students to transfer units into the Graduate Diploma in Design Thinking and Service Innovation. Design thinking is a cross-disciplinary skill set rather than a defined occupation, so it does not map onto a specific skilled migration pathway on its own. The course is delivered by Murdoch University in Western Australia.
