About this program
QUT's Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) is the first three years of the standard path into registered practice, and it's accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council on that basis, meaning graduates who continue into the Honours year and beyond are working through a nationally recognised sequence rather than a QUT-only track. The degree spends its early semesters on the empirical spine of the discipline: research methods, statistics, biological bases of behaviour, cognition, developmental and social psychology, before students pick from areas like forensic psychology, health psychology and organisational behaviour in later years.
What distinguishes it from a generic psych degree is QUT's applied, Brisbane-industry-adjacent framing: the course sits inside the Faculty of Health and draws on QUT's connections to hospitals, schools and community health services for guest input and, in some units, observation opportunities, rather than treating psychology purely as a laboratory science. Students planning to become a psychologist should expect this degree to be step one of a longer sequence: an Honours year (also APAC-accredited at QUT) followed by supervised practice or further postgraduate study is still required before registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Graduates who don't continue into clinical training still leave with a solid quantitative and behavioural-science skill set that's found use in HR, market research, policy and community services roles across Queensland.

- Year 1: Introduction to Psychology, Biological Psychology, Research Methods and Statistics I, Lifespan Development, university-wide elective units
- Year 2: Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Research Methods and Statistics II, Personality and Individual Differences, introductory units in an applied area (forensic, health or organisational psychology)
- Year 3: Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Assessment, an applied psychology elective sequence (choice of forensic, health, organisational or community strands), a research project unit
- Throughout: professional practice and ethics content embedded across units
- APAC-accredited sequence continues into a separate Honours (4th) year for students pursuing registration
