Bachelor of Behavioural Science (exit award only)

University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia

About this program

The Bachelor of Behavioural Science is an exit award at the University of Queensland rather than a program you apply for directly. It is granted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) who choose, or need, to leave that program after 3 years of study rather than continuing into the honours year. The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) itself explores human behaviour, cognition and emotion through neurodevelopmental, social, cognitive, biological and abnormal psychology, and normally leads on to postgraduate study required for registration as a psychologist. A student who exits with the Bachelor of Behavioural Science still has a recognised university qualification covering the first 3 years of that coursework, useful for roles in human resources, community services, research support and further study in a related field, but without the honours research component or the direct line into psychologist registration that completing the full 4 year program provides.

Course structure

  • This is an exit award from UQ's Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours)
  • not a program with its own separate course list. Students are awarded the Bachelor of Behavioural Science after completing the first 3 years of that program's coursework
  • which covers areas such as The Brain and Behavioural Sciences
  • Psychological Approaches to Complex Problems and Neuroscience for Psychologists
  • before the dedicated honours research year

Career & PR pathway

Which careers in Psychology lead to skilled migration depends on the occupation, not the degree title. See the skilled occupation lists guide for which occupations are on each list, and the points calculator to check where you stand.

Admissions

There is no direct entry pathway for this award. Students reach it only by first being admitted to and enrolling in UQ's Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), which for domestic school leavers requires Queensland Year 12 General English (Units 3 and 4, C) and a minimum ATAR of 89, or the International Baccalaureate equivalent of 34.75.
