About this program

The RMIT Bachelor of Digital Design brings creativity and technology together to design the overall experience of the technological systems people engage with every day. Students work across user interfaces and digital services, data visualisation and motion graphics, sound design and music, and 3D and immersive simulations and environments. Graduates work as digital and interaction designers, UX and UI designers, motion and 3D designers, and sound designers across technology, media and creative industries.

Course structure

1 term of coursework

  • Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Learning outcomes Year 1 Year 1 In your first year, you'll be introduced to university life, collaboration and ongoing critical creative practice through our Digital Design Foundations subject. You will ground your practice and ethics in respect for Country and learn from Indigenous people and knowledges in Responsible Creative Practice, as well as honing your skills in creative research and development in Critical Creativity, learning how to work critically with computation and digital systems. You will start your chosen major in your first semester, continuing to build your skills through a selection of technique-focused subjects, and broadening your expertise through your choice of subject options and a minor. Year 2 Year 2 In your second year, you will continue to deepen your skills through subjects in your chosen major and minor. You also analyse and position yourself to influence the place and impact of digital technologies in contemporary life through Digital Cultures. You move into studio subjects in your major, putting together your skills as a holistic practice through project-based learning in response to creative challenges, surrounded by your peers in your chosen field. Year 3 Year 3 In your final year, you complete your studios and selected subjects, undertake Digital Design Professional Practice to map your chosen field, build your portfolio, and learn how to present yourself professionally, preparing for internships and employment. You complete the course with Digital Design Capstone, working on collaborative and interdisciplinary projects with briefs from industry partners. You also complete your choice of an internship, a focus on presenting your work publicly in Digital Design Exhibits, and/or taking a further step in your unique

Prerequisites: Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or equivalent studies . Rankings and adjustment factors Entry to this course is competitive. Eligible applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on their academic achievement plus any adjustment factors. You may be eligible to receive adjustment factors which include equity access schemes and/or subject adjustments to a maximum of 28 aggregate adjustment points.
