About this program

The RMIT Bachelor of Games develops future-ready skills across game design, game art and game development in one of Australia's most established and influential game design programs, recognised for its strong connections to the games sector and as one of Australia's most gender-balanced game degrees. Students develop their game design practice through project-based work with industry links. Graduates work in games design, art, production and development, and in the broader interactive media and software industries.

  • Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Learning outcomes Year 1 Year 1 In your first year, you'll build a strong foundation in the principles, practices and creative culture of game design. Through studio projects and practical learning activities, you'll explore how games are designed, created and experienced, while developing an understanding of your role and responsibilities as a game designer. You'll be introduced to core areas of game design including game mechanics, systems thinking, game art, asset creation and game engines. Across these subjects, you'll begin developing your design process, learning how ideas are researched, prototyped, tested and refined through iterative practice. By the end of the year, you'll have developed a broad understanding of game design practice and produced a range of playable and creative outcomes that begin to form your professional portfolio. Year 2 Year 2 In your second year, you'll deepen your understanding of game design practice by exploring more complex design methods, systems and production workflows. Studio projects become more collaborative and challenging, requiring you to apply your creative, technical and problem-solving skills to design innovative responses to game design briefs. Working alongside other game design students, you'll develop games through collaborative project studios that reflect contemporary industry practice. At the same time, you'll begin shaping your individual creative identity by undertaking a Games minor, allowing you to specialise your skills in an area that complements your interests and career goals. Admissions

Prerequisites: Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or equivalent studies .
