Bachelor of Nursing
RMIT University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
The Bachelor of Nursing at RMIT University prepares students to make a difference in people's lives through clinical practice across a range of nursing specialisations. Delivered at the Bundoora campus, the degree is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) as an entry to nursing practice qualification, and successful completion allows graduates to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a Registered Nurse. In first year, students explore biosciences, the fundamentals of nursing practice and the essentials of health care in Australia, alongside clinical practice placements. Second year builds on these foundations with a focus on caring for people in acute care settings, including medical, surgical and mental health nursing. In the final year, students acquire skills in more specialised areas of practice, complete a professional development seminar that prepares them for work as a registered nurse, and choose an elective such as palliative care, advanced speciality nursing, paediatric nursing, or dual diagnosis, co-morbidity and society. Clinical placements run throughout the degree across a variety of healthcare agencies, with clinical staff from those agencies directly involved in supervising students. Graduates go on to work in public and private hospitals, community and public health, aged care and mental health nursing, in Australia and overseas.
