About this program
The RMIT Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Honours) teaches students about the human body, the action of drugs, and how the pharmaceutical industry can deliver more reliable, accessible and effective treatments. Alongside pharmacology and physiology, students study the development of new drugs, the clinical use of medications, and the legal and regulatory aspects of the industry. Graduates work in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research and development, drug formulation and analysis, regulatory affairs, and clinical trials.

Course structure
1 term of coursework
- Year 1 In your first year of study, you will study several general science subjects to provide you with a sound scientific base. These will include chemistry and biochemistry, cell biology, and anatomy and physiology. You will also be introduced to the foundations of human health and begin developing skills in communication and professional practice. Year 2 In your second year, you will gain more in-depth education and training in the major discipline areas of physiology and pharmacology, and begin to learn about the process of how drugs are discovered, developed, and regulated. You will select and begin studies in your chosen specialist or cross-disciplinary minor to complement your core studies in pharmaceutical science. Options for minors: Biotechnology - Learn how genetic, cellular and biomolecular processes are harnessed to develop breakthrough technologies to combat disease and promote healthy ageing. Economics - Discover the issues affecting businesses and economies both locally and globally. Year 3 In your final year, your focus will be on how drugs are used to treat diseases along with pharmaceutical industry-related topics, including the design and management of clinical trials, drug regulations and medical information. You will also complete studies in your chosen minor. The degree will culminate in a capstone research project in medical sciences, which will develop and assess your professional skills via both project-based work and activities in a workplace setting (real or simulated)
Admissions
Prerequisites: Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or equivalent studies . AND Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods, Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Physics or equivalent studies. AND Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology or Chemistry or equivalent studies. Rankings and adjustment factors Entry to this course is competitive. Eligible applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on their academic achievement plus any adjustment factors.
