About this program

The RMIT Bachelor of Psychology is the study of the science of human behaviour and the mental states that drive it. Alongside the principles of personality, psychopathology and psychotherapy, students explore social, developmental, biological and cognitive psychology and research methods. Completing the accredited sequence is the first stage toward registration as a psychologist. Graduates also work in research, human resources, health and community services, and policy.

Course structure

1 term of coursework

  • Year 1 In first year, you will study these foundation areas: biological bases of behaviour including brain behaviour relationships, sensation, perception and consciousness theories of learning, memory and cognition (including theories of intelligence) theories of emotion, motivation and stress. You will also study these principles of psychology: personality psychopathology social psychology. Year 2 You will study biological psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, research methods in psychology, social psychology and forensic psychology. Year 3 In your final year, you will study philosophy and methodology of psychology, psychological assessment and individual differences, professional practices and cross- cultural psychology, psychopathology and models of intervention, motivational and organisational psychology and psychology of gender. You will also have the choice of a psychology placement or working on a psychology research project

Admissions

Prerequisites: Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or equivalent studies . Rankings and adjustment factors Entry to this course is competitive. Eligible applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on their academic achievement plus any adjustment factors. You may be eligible to receive adjustment factors which include equity access schemes and/or subject adjustments to a maximum of 28 aggregate adjustment points.
