Diploma of Dental Technology

While studying the Diploma of Dental Technology, you'll have access to a modern laboratory to undertake the practical components of your course. This lab is built to industry standards and contains all the equipment and technology you need to construct and repair different types of dental prosthetics.
You will also have the opportunity to use computer aided design (CAD) and computer assisted manufacturing (CAM) tools to train in digital dentistry, giving you the most up-to-date skills and knowledge.
Some of your units will require assessments to be undertaken in the workplace. A TAFE NSW teacher or assessor will attend Sydney Dental Hospital with you to carry out these assessments.
Before the first clinical experience in a NSW Health facility, you will need to show evidence that you:
- Hold a valid Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Hold a valid Australian National Police Record Check
- Have a signed NSW Health code of conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW health
- Undertake an occupational assessment, screening and vaccinations against infectious diseases, and can provide your health care worker/student vaccination record card
You must also complete the following mandatory online modules as required:
- HLTFIN001 - Comply with infection control prevention and control policies and procedures. This unit will be taught in a dental laboratory that services NSW Health clients located at Sydney Dental Hospital.
- HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid. This is a core unit of this qualification. Successful completion of this unit will require you to demonstrate your physical fitness for the purposes of performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the floor.
- A manual dexterity test: You must participate in a manual dexterity test to ensure an appropriate level of dexterity to enable you to complete complex manual tasks involved in dental technology.
