About this program
The University of Canberra's Bachelor of Midwifery is a three-year degree accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council, leading to eligibility for registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. It is built on a continuity-of-care model: each student follows 22 women through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, attending their regular appointments and being on call for labour, which requires real flexibility.
Students complete 1,310 clinical practice hours over the three years, more than at many comparable programs. Entry is a selection rank of about 70 plus police, immunisation, tuberculosis and Working with Vulnerable People clearances, with IELTS 7.0 and at least 6.5 in writing. It suits people committed specifically to midwifery and woman-centred maternity care rather than general nursing.

There are non-standard English language requirements for admission to this course that must be met by all candidates. To be eligible candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency via one of the following: . 1) English Language Assessment Test results from one of the following English proficiency tests: . - Academic IELTS score of 7.0 overall with minimum score of 7 in listening, reading and speaking and minimum score of 6.5 in writing; or . - OET grade of B with minimum score of B in listening, reading and speaking and minimum score of C+ in writing; or . - TOEFL iBT with an overall score of 94 with minimum score of 24 in listening, reading and writing and 23 in speaking; or . - PTE Academic score of 66 overall with minimum score of 66 in listening, reading and speaking and minimum score of 56 in writing. .
