About this program
A three-year science degree in the biology, optics and health of the visual system. It is the required first half of UC's optometry pathway: the degree on its own is not a clinical qualification, and graduates go on to the two-year Master of Optometry to become registered optometrists.
The final year includes an integrated eye care and ocular therapeutics unit with clinical and non-clinical placement, using the University of Canberra Hospital. Entry is a selection rank of about 80 with assumed knowledge in mathematical methods, chemistry and physics, plus immunisation, first aid and Working with Vulnerable People checks. It suits students committed to the full optometry pathway, or to vision research and the optical industry.
