Master of Fine Arts
University of Melbourne, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
The Master of Fine Arts is a graduate research degree at the Victorian College of the Arts, taken over two years full time on campus at Southbank with a March intake. Candidates undertake a substantial piece of original creative research under academic supervision, developing mastery in their field of practice and contributing to understandings of contemporary art and culture. The submission is a written thesis of around 30,000 to 40,000 words, or a combination of creative work and a written component equivalent to 40,000 words, where the written part is at least a quarter of the whole. Creative work can take the form of performance, exhibition, writing, design, film, video or new media. Graduates work as practising artists, researchers, educators and creative practitioners, and the degree is a pathway to a PhD.
