About this program
UQ's Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours) is the only degree of its kind in Australia, built specifically for students aiming at investment banking, funds management or central banking careers. The four-year program is structured around direct engagement with industry partners rather than classroom theory alone, and students build financial models for real corporate transactions, extract and analyse data from UQ's Bloomberg Lab, and develop and pitch their own investment thesis as part of assessment. Core courses cover tools of economic analysis, microeconomics and financial management, with electives in the economics of international finance and competition policy and regulation, and the degree finishes with a supervised individual research thesis. Because entry and English requirements sit above UQ's general business degrees, it is aimed at strong students heading toward roles such as investment banker, mergers and acquisitions adviser or fund manager at firms including the Reserve Bank and major global banks.
