Bachelor of Midwifery
University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
UQ's Bachelor of Midwifery is a 3-year program developed with midwifery academics, industry partners and parents themselves, training students to support women through pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period. Clinical placement rostered shifts and simulated learning begin in first year, building toward extended clinical placements in the final year that manage the transition from student to practising midwife. Core courses include introduction to midwifery practice and clinical midwifery practice, and students who want to also qualify as a registered nurse can complete UQ's combined Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery dual degree with just one extra year of study. Graduates typically move into hospital midwifery, community midwifery, antenatal care or international aid work, in a profession facing sustained demand across Australia's health system.
