About this program
The Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Queensland prepares students to become registered nurses through 880 hours of supervised clinical practice in real hospitals and healthcare facilities across Australia. The program was developed with healthcare professionals, industry partners and patients, and uses a narrative and inquiry-based teaching approach that integrates evidence-based theory with clinical practice from the first year, when students begin rostered clinical placement shifts and skills simulation. Core courses cover health across the lifespan, clinical nursing practice, older adults' health and acute care nursing, and students can pursue a combined Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery dual qualification. Registered nurse graduates from UQ move into diverse settings including paediatric, critical care, mental health, rural health and aged care nursing, a profession with strong ongoing demand in Australia.
